Long - Henry

Henry Lee Long, living three miles north of the city, one of the best known and most highly respected men of Montgomery County, died suddenly Monday norming at an early hour, presumably of heart trouble, being found sitting dead in his chair by his daughter, Mrs. Charles Walters, with whom he resided in the home place.
Early Monday morning Mr. Walters went to the barn to do the feeding and shortly his wife arose. Mr. Long was subject to smothering spells and would often get up in the night and sit in his chair. As Mrs. Walters came near her father she discovered something was wrong with him. She called to him and getting no response went to him and found that he was dead. He was cold and had evidently gotten up early in the night on account of his affliction. Death, how ever, must have been most peaceful, for there was no evidience that he suffered any as he was setting upright in his chair.
Mr. Long was seventy-eight years old and was born in this city, his entire life having been spent in Montgomery county. He was married in 1862 to Sarah Jane Jones. He leaves .....(can't read)... preceded him in death fifteen years ago. The children are Henry P. Long of Anderson, Mrs. Fred Rosebro of Chicago, Mrs. Samuel Nelson of Greencastle, Mrs. Harry F. Wedding, Mrs. Charles Walters, Mrs. Ward McClelland, Mrs. Hubert Wilhite, and J. Lee Long, all of this city.
He united with the Primitive Baptist church in August, 1900. He lived continously on one farm since 1868. On the day before his death he attended church in town and spent the afternoon with his niece, Mrs. Eva Foster, looking over family records. Returning home in the evening in good spirits, Mr. Long remarked he felt very well and had not been complaing previously.
Funeral will be held at the family residence at 2:30 Wednesday afternoon. - typed by kbz
